What is a Facial Cleansing Brush?
A Facial Cleaning Brush is a an electronic device used to clean your face better than your hands can. A facial cleansing brush has bristles that rotate/vibrate while you move it around your face.
This helps removes dirt, oil, makeup, and dead skin cells. The results are improvements in the evenness of skin tone, smoothness of skin, and reduced breakouts! Now lets meet the contenders for the best Facial Cleansing Brush.
Best Facial Cleansing Brush
The Clarisonic Mia 2 System contains: 1 brush, 1 brush head, USB charger, drying stand, and a trial size cleanser.
Clarisonic was one of the first companies to create a Facial Cleansing Brush, and the Clarison MIA line is among the best. The Mia 2 is the newer version. The Mia 2 is great for all skin types because it has 3 different speed settings. I used the lowest setting to wash with regular cleanser, and used the highest setting to exfoliate one a week.
The USB charger is very easy to use and holds the Mia nicely when I am not using it. I also like that the battery holds a charge very well, and it is lightweight. These features would make it easy to travel with. The Mia is also water-proof so you could use it during a shower without fear!
After using the Mia 3 for 2 weeks, I saw an improvement in the dry patches on my cheeks. My skin is combination oily/dry so I was delighted to see my face was less oily when I woke up every day than it was prior to using the Clarisonic Mia system. I also saw an improvement in the size of my pores, and reduction in black heads around my nose.
The negative thing about the Mia 2 is that you have to wash and dry it after each use. Otherwise your brush could develop a musty smell. Buying extra brush heads and rotating their use is the best way to make sure your Mia stays clean.
The Clique Sonic System Includes 1 Brush, 1 Brush Head, and Charging stand.
Clique’s sonic system was designed to be used alongside their classic skincare line. It is a gentle alternative to a heavier duty cleansing brush. When I turned it on, the the brush head pulses very gently like a light skin massage. The Clinique sonic system only has one speed setting. The Brush itself is lighter than the Mia 3, but the thin base makes it a little tricker to hold.
This brush holds a charge well, and I got about 7 uses from 1 charge. It has an automatic shut off after 30 seconds, which helped me remember the proper amount of time to spend cleansing. The Clinique sonic system purifying brush is water proof so you can use while showering. The brushes are anti-microbial which helps keep the bristles clean between uses. This may mean replacing the brush heads less often than with some other facial cleansing brush.
After 2 weeks of using the Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush I noticed my skin had an overall more even look, and I had not had any large blemishes on my face. This brush was very gentle however, so it did not exfoliate my skin as deeply as the MIA 3.
This is why my pores did not become much smaller was using the clinique system. I would say this system is overall better suited for someone with sensitive skin, and not for someone who wants a device capable of a deep clean.
3. Foreo Luna 2
The Foreo Luna 2 System includes: The Forea Luna 2 Device, USB charging cord, and a Drawstring carry bag.
The Foreo Luna 2 is a unique facial cleansing brush. It has an oval shape, and bigger surface area than most other brushes. The Luna 2 system has 4 different models available. These are based on your skin type: Normal, Oily, Combination, or Sensitive. I purchased the Luna 2 Combination device, which is a nice blue color.
My favorite thing about the Luna 2 is the quick drying silicone bristles. They are much more hygienic than a traditional facial cleansing brush, no replacing the brush heads! The Luna 2 is compact, and fits palm of my hand. It has an extra surface on the side of the device, called Anti-aging mode. You can use this feature on wrinkle prone areas to invigorate the skin gently. It helps firm skin around sensitive areas like your eyes. The Luna 2 is completely water proof so it can be used in the shower.
After 2 weeks of using the Luna 2 my skin was very clear. The Luna 2 was so easy and fun to use, that I looked forward to using it every night before bed. The large surface area of the bristles gets skin clean quickly. My makeup came off more easily using the Luna 2, and I didn’t need to push hard to get a deep clean. My skin was so clear, I used a light powder instead of my regular heavy foundation.
I used the anti aging mode in the mornings, and the areas under my eyes looked refreshed. The battery life on the Luna 2 is great, and you can get an average of 450 uses from one charge! The only complaint I have with the Luna 2 is that it comes with a usb charger, so you’ll need an adapter to plug into a standard outlet.
The Aura Clean Orbital Cleansing Face Brush & Cleaning System includes: 1 Brush Handle, 2 Brushes, 1 Charging Base with usb/wall adapter.
The Aura Clean Orbital brush is an eye catching product, it looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. The unique system has a rounded storage base. When you set the brush in the base it cleans, dries, and charges it for the next use! The brush has a unique ergonomic handle that made me feel like I was grabbing a ball. The brush has a minute timer to keep me from cleaning too long. It also has a little prompt that encourages switching to a new area of your face.
The Aura Clean brush has two brush types, and two speed settings. The blue brush head and slower speed setting are for everyday use. The orange brush head is used on the higher speed setting, and exfoliates for a deeper clean. The brush is also waterproof so no issues bringing it into the shower or bath tub.
After two weeks of using the Aura Clean Orbital Face Brush & Cleaning System, I noticed my skin looked brighter and my pores had reduced in size pretty noticeably. The timing system which made it easy to remember when to switch/ when to finish with the brush. I also liked the fact that when I finished using the brush, I could simply drop it into the base. Next time I picked it up, I knew it would be clean, dry, and ready to rock.
The charging base is large, so you have to give up prime sink space to accommodate this cleaning system. Because of its size, it would also not be a very travel friendly option, so if you are looking for a system that can move with you, a smaller one would be a better alternative.
The Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System includes: 1 Cleansing Brush, 2 Brush Heads, 1 Small bottle of Exfoliating Cleanser, 2 AA batteries.
The Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System has a design that is very similar to the Clarisonic systems. It has a nice lightweight design, and is easy to hold onto. The Brush itself has two speed settings, a faster one for deeper cleaning, and a slower speed for everyday use.
The Olay system was similar to the Clinique brush, because the slower speed feels like a gentle skin massage, and does not irritate the skin. The Olay system is water resistant, but it is not full water proof. I would not take my chances and would keep this one away from the shower of tub.
After two weeks of using Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System, my skin looked better than average. I experienced some breakouts while using this system that I did not have while using other facial cleansing brushes. While using the Olay Pro-X System, I spent more time going over areas of my face to get them clean. The small surface area of the bristles, and gentle pressure made it difficult to get a deeper clean.
This brush uses batteries which makes it easy to travel with, however I dislike buying batteries for recharge. My overall impression of this system is that it would be a great “entry level” trial product to see if a cleansing brush is for you. If you do like the experience of using a facial cleansing brush, spending more to get a system that cleans better is the way to go.
