You may have noticed that lately your favorite celebrities are sporting longer and longer locks, with quite a few of them promoting Hair Growth Vitamins on their Instagram and Twitter feeds, citing them as the reason behind their long healthy manes!
My hair routinely goes through pretty intense damage from being colored and straightened and I figured that, along with the occasional keratin treatment, a daily hair growth supplement would help me keep my hair long and healthy. And it’s super easy to incorporate into my daily routine too.
But first a little background,
What vitamins are good for hair?
Vitamin C and B vitamins such as Biotin (aka Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H) and Niacin (Vitamin B3) are the essentials for hair growth, and for the most part, the best vitamins for hair growth all include those, along with some other additives to improve shine and silkiness.
Testing method
I tried 5 different brands of vitamins for hair growth. I took each brand for a month and recorded my results closely to nominate the best vitamins for hair growth!
My favorite hair vitamins are still part of my daily routine, and I couldn’t be happier with them! Read on to find out which ones they are.
The Best Vitamins for Hair Growth List
1. SugarBearHair Vitamins
SugarBearHair are a super popular brand of gummy hair vitamins that have become really famous on Instagram. Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Vanessa Hudgens take them. I was really excited to try these because they are adorable: they are tiny blue gummy bears (blue is my favorite color too!)
These hair vitamins are seriously delicious: I had to really stop myself from taking more than the recommended amount of 2 gummies per day. I usually took them right after breakfast which was like a nice little treat in the morning. I NEVER forgot to take one of these lil guys!
Results were noticeable within the first week and a half. I felt like I was shedding less hair while brushing almost immediately. I also noticed I was shedding eyelashes less frequently and my nails felt stronger—an added bonus of taking vitamins for hair growth. In the first month my hair grew about .5 inches, but it was also noticeably thicker.
SugarBearHair gummy vitamins contain 5mg (milligrams) of Biotin. Biotin produces keratin, which promotes the growth of existing hair, and works to increase the hair’s elasticity.
SugarBearHair gummies also contain the following vitamins and minerals: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin B-6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B-12, Pantothenic Acid, Iodine, Zinc, Choline, and Inositol.
Additionally, they’re “vegetarian,” meaning they contain no horsetail or gelatin, which are popular in other brands of hair vitamins.
Some people may not like the fact that SugarBearHair does have added sugar and coloring but, for me it was the reason I never skipped a day!
Finally, SugarBearHair are pretty expensive for a month’s supply.
Overall: I loved the great taste of these hair growth vitamins. After a month, my hair was longer, shinier and it felt smoother to the touch, but I’m not sure they’re worth the premium price.
2. Hairfinity Healthy Hair Complex
Hairfinity is another brand that I noticed celebs like Khloe Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, and Jennifer Love Hewitt were boasting about on social media, so I was curious to see what all the hype was about. I was less excited when I saw the size of these bad boys, which kind of reminded me of horse pills—the capsule size is fairly large.
I did notice an improvement in the shine and strength of my hair pretty early on into my month of Hairfinity. Overall my hair grew about a little shy of 1 inch within the first month. However I noticed more of an improvement in the strength of the strands, and saw an improvement in the health of my scalp (I have moderate dandruff).
Hairfinity vitamins contain 2.5mg of Biotin, but also boast an exclusive “Capilsana® Complex” providing strengthening amino acids in hydrolyzed collagen, MSM for vitality, and Horsetail and Silica to boost hair growth. It also uses Vitamins A and D, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin B12m Vitamin B1, B2, B6, C, Folic Acid, and Calcium.
Overall: I liked that my hair seemed much stronger after a month using Hairfinity, but the pills were difficult to swallow so I really did not look forward to taking these hair growth supplements. Additionally, these use horsetail which I don’t see as super necessary for hair growth. But a month’s supply of Hairfinity is really affordable.
3. HairAnew Growth Vitamins
HairAnew is a popular brand because it is both vegan and vegetarian and does not contain any type of animal product.
My hair growth seemed nice and steady in the month I used HairAnew. My hair grew around 1 inch. While this product helped with length, I didn’t see as big an improvement in terms of shedding and strength of my locks as I had seen with both SugarBearHair and Hairfinity.
HairAnew contains 5mg of Biotin, as well as vitamins C, E, B-Complex, Zinc, Kelp, and Inositol, as well as Silica and bamboo extract.
Overall: I liked that the ingredients are pretty minimal with this product, and again that no animal products or extra additives are present. Though my length improved while taking this, I didn’t see a lot of the other added benefits I felt I got from some of the other hair vitamins, such as increased shine and strength.
4. Dr Formulas HairOmega Hair, Skin and Nails Gummies
I was really excited to test out another brand of hair gummy vitamins! Dr Formulas HairOmega comes as a set of two different types: the red gummies are Biotin Vitamins, and the yellow are hair multivitamins. To be honest, I didn’t mind at all having to take 2 of each kind (4 total) daily! The HairOmega gummies were delicious—they tasted like candy!
Using these, I noticed improved strength and a decrease in hair breakage pretty early on. My hair grew about .5 inch during the month I used HairOmega, but I definitely noticed an improvement in the strength of my hair but also my nails, and eyelashes. I’m not sure if it was just the time of year as well, but my issues with oily skin seemed to improve while taking these hair growth gummies.
The HairOmega Biotin Vitamins contain 5mg of Biotin, and the HairOmega Hair Multivitamins contain 150mcg (micrograms) of Biotin, and other vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin B-6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B-12, Pantothenic Acid, Iodine, and Zinc. HairOmega are free of artificial flavors, preservatives, and synthetic colors, which is awesome. These come in a 45-day supply, and are super affordable.
Overall: I felt like I saw a big improvement in my hair while taking the HairOmega hair growth vitamins, and I loved that they are gummies while being free of additives. While they didn’t taste quite as good as the SugarBearHair (whyyyy do articial flavorings have to be so yummy?) I really liked getting to take 4 a day! For some people I can see how this would be a pain, but it was a bonus for me. Also I thought the price for a 45 day supply was great.
5. Zenwise Labs Hair Growth Vitamins Supplement
Zenwise Labs Hair Growth Vitamins are for people experiencing hair loss more than for people looking to grow their hair specifically. They support your hair’s natural growth cycle, and help reduce shedding, which is a problem for me.
I saw a slight improvement while using these hair growth vitamins. However, I feel like it occurred much more slowly than with the other brands. My hair grew about .3 inch during that month, but it did break less.
Zenwise Labs Hair Growth Vitamins contain 5mg of Biotin. Other Ingredients include, MSM, Grapeseed Extract, Saw Palmetto, and Pumpkin seed.
Overall: I think this product may be a good long term choice for someone who wants an aid with hair loss, but if you are looking to have your hair grow faster, there are better options. If you’re experiencing severe hair loss instead, I’d look into Folexin.
So which ones are the Best Vitamins for Hair Growth
The HairOmega Vitamins were the best overall! I loved that they gave great results, were awesome value for money, AND that I got to eat 4 delicious gummy vitamins every day!
Along with the occasional at home keratin treatment, the HairOmega really made my hair a lot thicker and stronger than it used to be. Try it out and let me know if it works for you too!
